What Do Kitchen Cabinets Actually Cost in Ventura County?

Camarillo Custom Cabinets publishes price ranges because most cabinet companies in this county do not, and the silence is not doing homeowners any favours. If you cannot find a number anywhere on a contractor's website, you cannot tell whether the quote you eventually receive is reasonable.
So here are the actual Ventura County market ranges, what sits inside each one, and the six factors that move a quote up or down. These are planning ranges, not quotes. Nobody can price cabinetry accurately without measuring the room.
The Ranges
For a typical Ventura County kitchen, in ascending order:
- Refinishing existing doors: roughly $4,000 to $9,000
- Refacing with new doors and skins: roughly $9,000 to $20,000
- New semi-custom cabinets installed: roughly $18,000 to $35,000
- Full custom cabinetry: roughly $30,000 to $65,000 and up
- A single custom bathroom vanity: roughly $2,500 to $8,000
- A reach-in closet system: roughly $1,500 to $4,000
The gap between refinishing and full custom is close to tenfold, which is why the reface-refinish-replace decision matters more than any other choice you will make.

What Actually Moves the Number
Six factors do most of the work, and understanding them lets you read a quote properly rather than just comparing bottom lines.
Opening count, not square footage. Refacing and refinishing are priced per door and drawer front. A kitchen with 32 doors and 14 drawers costs meaningfully more than one with 22 doors and 6 drawers even at identical linear footage. Count your openings before you call anyone.
Door style. A flat slab in paint-grade MDF is the least expensive door to build. Inset doors, which sit flush within the face frame, cost substantially more because every opening has to be fitted individually.
Finish system. One solid colour sprayed in catalyzed varnish is straightforward. Stained wood with a glaze, or two different finishes in one room, adds shop time.
Box material. This is where a low bid usually hides its savings, because once the doors are on you cannot see the difference between a plywood box and a particleboard one.
Hardware grade and count. A drawer-heavy kitchen has far more hardware than a door-heavy one of the same size, and grade matters as much as quantity.
Site conditions. Out-of-level floors, bowed walls, plaster over lath and second-floor access all add installation hours. Older housing in Ventura, Santa Paula and the Camarillo flats reliably needs more of this than a 2000s tract home does.
How to Compare Two Quotes Properly
Two quotes for the same kitchen can differ by $12,000 and both be honest, if they are specifying different things. Ask every bidder to state four items separately rather than giving you one number:
- Box construction: plywood or particleboard, and what the back panel is
- Door style and material, and whether the finish is sprayed or brushed
- Hardware grade, ideally against the ANSI/BHMA A156.9 standard
- What is excluded: demolition, disposal, countertops, plumbing, electrical
If a bidder will not break those out, that is information too.
Financing and the Resale Question
Most Ventura County cabinet projects land between $8,000 and $55,000, which is why financing comes up on a majority of jobs. Deferred-interest promotional plans are excellent if you will clear the balance inside the window, and expensive if you will not, because interest is typically charged retroactively from the original purchase date rather than from the end of the promotion.
If you are spending partly with resale in mind, the 2025 Cost vs. Value Report is worth reading. It found a minor kitchen remodel returns more at resale than a major one in every region covered, with major upscale kitchens recouping roughly 35 percent.
